Groove cutting and joint filling on an industrial concrete floor

Concrete floor joints

Groove Cutting & Joint Filling

Groove cutting creates planned joints so a concrete slab cracks in straight lines where it is meant to, rather than randomly. Joint filling then protects those joints from traffic damage. ASVDF Flooring provides groove cutting and joint filling for new and existing floors from Shamshabad, Hyderabad, all over India, including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Odisha.

Why concrete floors need joints

Concrete shrinks as it dries. Without joints, that movement shows up as random cracks. Contraction joints, saw-cut to a set depth (commonly about a quarter of the slab thickness), create weakened planes so the slab cracks neatly beneath the cut.

Groove cutting

Joints are cut with floor saws to the designed layout, spacing and depth. Timing matters: cutting is done within hours of finishing, once the concrete can be cut without ravelling but before uncontrolled cracks form.

Joint filling

Open joints chip at the edges under hard forklift wheels. A semi-rigid filler, such as a two-component epoxy or polyurea, supports the joint edges while allowing slight movement. Where practical, filling is delayed so the slab has shrunk and the joints are closer to their final width.

  • Semi-rigid fillers for forklift traffic areas
  • Flexible sealants for external and movement joints
  • Refilling and edge repair on existing floors

Repairing damaged joints

Spalled joints can be repaired by cutting back the damaged edges, rebuilding them with a suitable repair material and refilling the joint.
