PQC flooring: pavement quality concrete for heavy-duty areas

Pavement quality concrete

PQC Flooring Services

PQC — pavement quality concrete — is high-strength concrete designed for rigid pavements that carry heavy, repeated wheel loads. ASVDF Flooring constructs PQC for industrial yards, internal roads, parking areas and heavy-duty slabs, working from Shamshabad, Hyderabad, with projects all over India, including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Odisha.

What is PQC?

PQC is the top, load-bearing layer of a concrete pavement. Because pavements fail mainly by bending, PQC is designed on flexural strength rather than cube strength alone. In India, IRC:15 and MoRTH Section 602 set the requirements, commonly a minimum 28-day flexural strength of 4.5 MPa, with the slab laid over a prepared sub-base such as dry lean concrete (DLC).

Where PQC is used

  • Industrial yards, container and truck parking areas
  • Internal plant roads and approach roads
  • Loading docks and hardstands for heavy vehicles
  • Parking areas and other external slabs exposed to weather and traffic

How PQC is constructed

The sub-grade and sub-base are prepared to level, then concrete of the approved mix is placed, compacted and finished to the specified surface. A textured finish is applied where skid resistance is needed. Contraction joints are cut at the designed spacing and sealed, and the pavement is cured thoroughly before it carries traffic.

PQC or VDF?

PQC describes the concrete and the pavement it forms, typically outdoors. VDF describes how an industrial floor surface is finished, typically indoors. Some projects use both: PQC for yards and roads, VDF for the warehouse or factory floor.
